I recently got hooked on the look of Groovyjay's 'vette with those 20" rims. ... and made me wanna put some on mine.. in yur opinion.. what is "too big" for rim size.. i found so rims that i thought were pretty cool looking and not too ghetto.. and i wanted to put 20's in the back and 19s in the front.. but these dont come small than 20... so i thought 22s in the back and 20s in the front.. is that too extreme.. and would it look retarded?? hit me up with some feedback!!
here is a pic of the Rims. It's a Devino "Trench" style

I think 20's are max size for our cars,22's would be huge and no sidewall what soever ,id keep looking and stick with 20's or smaller.Just my oppinion.

I know that no one is going to like this, but I’d go no bigger then 17”. When you look at the style of our cars the tire sidewall is an essential part to the lines of the vehicle. I think this big rims fad is a disaster. Every guy who wants to make their ride “cool” ads some chrome rims, and if you want it to go fast add some stickers. I for one will not buy into this fad. I will have the original 15s on my 75, and paint them to match the car. That will bring out the beauty of the old chrome covers.

Just one guys opinion.

Look at tires available first. For protection of the rim you need a descent side wall. I feel 40 series is a low as I want to go on a street driven car. 20 series looks a little funny and the sidewalls begin to look like rubber bands. You also see the guys with 20 series tires almost comming to complete stops on the road going over railways tracks and curbs. This is not fair to other drivers on the road with road worth cars.
So look at tire dimensions and if you get a 20 inch rim any descent tire with 40 or even 35 series quickly gets up to 28-29 inch diameter.
That just doesn't look right on our vets.
I compromised on 18 inch all around with 40 series tires for sidewall protection and end up with about 27 inch tires. Big enough.
The cost of rims is all the same so base your choice on tire size and diameter.

This is a comparison between a 18 inch rim and a stock 15 inch corvette rim. 3 inches really shows. Do you need 5 inches to look better.

Also keep in mind what the small discs are going to look like with a massive rim??
I went with 14 inch rotors for improved braking and better looks.

I respect your opinion and agree with the stuff you said, if you are into originality and original ride and original looks, then the 15's are the way to go. However the 15" wheels with 60 or even 70 series tires are a big no no when it comes to high performance driving.

No matter how good your suspension and brakes are they will be no good for you with those flexy rubber balls. I have driven my cars with almost every possible suspension combination, hard/soft springs big/small/no swaybars, composite springs etc and nothing has changed the drivability and ride as much as the low profile tires. With the 17" and 18" wheels you are still able to run enough tirewall to have a nice ride with a great handling. The 20" I'm using are bit harsh but so is the whole car, it was built that way and set up to be stiff all around. I really am comfortable driving this car hard now, powersliding and hard braking are much easier now when I know that what the suspension and steering are doing and how the tires are acting.

As far as the 22"s go, tire size seems to be the limiting factor, if you would find a 255/25/22 tires then you would still be within the stock (255/60/16 27"dia.) measurements. However I can't find anything for that size. If the overall diameter exceeds 27" much it will start look funny, since it will start raising the whole car... If you can fin tires that will work with the 22s, go for it!!! :partyon:

Mix them all together

I think that everyone has made at least one valid point.

Groovyjay's car is one of the best looking C3's that I have ever seen (in my humble opinion). However, 20's might not be the right choice. Here is Chicago, with all of the potholes, that would be a disaster. I think that only you can really decide what is going to be best.

Although, I do think that 22's would be a bit much
